The Beginning Of Something Yummy...

Let's start with heading to the past.

In August of 2024, I started teasing a promotional poster about a new product on Scruffy Pup's Instagram. At this time, I had only provided pet-sitting services and I had this immense urge to do more for the dog community.

The first post!

This urge started when I wanted to make dog treats with ingredients that weren't filled with preservatives or unnecessary additives. I wanted to understand each ingredient as it's important that I know what I am allowing my dog to consume. It was also important that I knew exactly what each ingredient was (not something that I'd never heard of before) and if that ingredient had held any extra nutritional value besides being yummy.

It didn't take me long to research and have conversations with my family, my co-workers, and other pet owners to find out that I wasn't the only one who wanted to feed my dog the best of the best, especially when it came to high-value treats that most dogs will love!

During my job as an animal attendant, I've learned quite a lot of information about dogs: their behavioural and social queues, their medical conditions and simple medical remedies, and most important of all - what foods are best for dogs. And the answer is simple: natural is best.

So this got me thinking. I could make my treats that contained nothing but natural goodness and with ingredients I could read and understand. So, from my general knowledge as a pet owner and after doing some thorough research, I started baking my dog treats!

After practising with the ingredients, ordering easy-to-read stickers and packaging, running into some bumps along the way, having my cutest taste testers and sending them off to family members to give them a try, it was a quick decision to start testing them out to sell to the public.

And you guys loved it! And your fur babies too, of course.

The first order of stickers and packaging, excitement was an understatement.

Scruffy Pup treats are slowly becoming a household favourite among every dog and I aim to create new yummy and safe flavours that can continue being enjoyed! I even aim to find new ways to distribute the treats so they become easier to store, more fun to feed and more creative designs.

One thing I had to remember was that these are treats: meaning I couldn't go too heavy-handed with the ingredients and neither could I make them into huge shapes. I needed to keep in mind that treats are not meals and should only be given as a 'yes' when rewarding your dogs' good behaviour or when they finally nailed that handshake!

I aim to make the treats natural, crunchy and overall so tasty it is irresistible and I'm over the moon with the feedback I have received!
